Term: ALT text in HTML IMG Tag
The HTML ALT text is a part ("element") of the HTML IMG tag that is used to define the image to be displayed and to specify such things as the image size and whether a border should be drawn around the image. Alternative text associated with an image that can be used by search engines and by software which allows blind people to have a software page reader translate the text into sound. It is recommended that any alternative text contain keywords that explain the image as well as be keyword rich. When using most browsers, the text in the alt tag is displayed when the mouse is moved over the image. Sometimes this text is given the name "Tool Tip" and the action of putting the mouse over the image called "mouse over". Additional related terms:
