A cable used for transmitting and receiving data. CAT is an abbreviation for Category and 5E relates to the section of standard 568 created by ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and EIA (Electronic Industries Association) relating to data transmission through "twisted pairs" of wires. The term "CAT 5E" technically means "CAT 5" Enhanced. The standard defines the ways / protocols used in which information to sent and received data. The maximum throughput for data in a CAT 5 Cable is 100 MHz. Common applications are: 100 Mbps TPDDI 155 Mbps ATM Gigabit Ethernet This standard replaced CAT 5. Additional related terms:
