DID - Direct Inward Dialing

Term: DID - Direct Inward Dialing

DID or Direct Inward Dialing is a telephone technology that is available when an organization uses digital equipment with which to route incoming phone calls.

With direct inward dialing you could assign an individual member of staff their own unique telephone number, which is then transferred to their extension or forwarded to an external mobile or other phone number.

The real benefit of using DID / Direct Inward Dialing is that the cost of additional lines is minimal. Therefore, one could economically provide 20 to 30 staff members with their own number and only use 5 incoming and outgoing phone lines.
