Term: DNS Server - Domain Name Server
Domain Name Server - A server that is specifically set up to act as a "traffic cop" to provide IP addresses corresponding to domains and / or sub-domains. For example, if an external email client wants to send an e-mail to an email address at xyzcompany.com their email server will send a request to the domain name server for xyzcompany.com to find out the IP address of the server to use to receive the email. There are different types of DNS entries, such as email, Host A records. For mission critical applications it is much better to partner with a company that can manage your DNS entries in a fast efficient way.
