Term: Data Acquisition - Data Capture
Data acquisition or data capture is the process by which information is obtained. Different methods can be used to gather data. For example, individuals can fill out forms, or individuals can call in information that is recorded on forms or automatically entered into a computer system using a standalone program or via a web form. Other examples of acquiring data can be found in the way that supermarkets capture data when you have your groceries scanned at the cash register. Another example would be through the use of hand-held scanners. For example, when a carrier delivers a package to you, they might scan a bar code that had been added to the package. When you check out at a store, a terminal may be used to capture data such as a credit card number or a signature. With the wide availability of internet browsers and the increased familiarity that individuals have with using online web forms for obtaining data, progressive organizations have realized that there is a great potential to gain cost savings, improve the accuracy of the database and provide faster service through the use of custom web forms. We have created many custom forms that capture data for such things as: (1) Contact Forms, (2) Request for Quotes, (3) Project Management information, (4) Newsletters, (5) Passwords an user IDs for secure applications, (6) Public water utility for capturing meter readings from clients.
