Term: Data Entry
Data Entry is the process by which information is provided. Data can be entered through an online web form, or through a form on a standalone program running on an in-house computer system. Historically, individuals have completed forms and sent or mailed them to offices where many individuals have performed data entry operations. One of the problems with this approach to data acquisition is that it can be time-consuming and costly - because it can sometimes be difficult to read what was written. Another problem can be that the data entered can be invalid. These days, in order to save office staff costs, to improve accuracy and increase the speed at which data is acquired, there is a trend towards providing web forms that allow the individual who has the information to perform their own data entry. Information acquired/captured from the web can be obtained by using a secure or unsecured form. If the information is sensitive, then it is customary to use secured forms with an SSL Certificate. We have developed many different on-line forms which are used to add information to databases. For example: (1) Request for Quotes, (2) Water Meter Readings, (3) Project Management, (4) Contact Forms and (5) Dealer Applications. Additional related terms:
