Term: Export Files - ACCESS, CSV, XLS, etc.
Export files refers to process by which information stored within one computer program is saved in a format that can be used by other programs.
When you export information in files from your current program will usually have several different formats that can used. For example, the Excel spreadsheet would let you create a CSV or Comma Separated Variable format. The Word program would allow you export a document as text.
The benefit we have brought to our customers from providing file exporting and importing services is that they have been able to leverage existing data and documents that were of a non proprietary nature and to convert them into versions that were useful to web visitors and could be readily indexed by search engines. We have used source documents to create technical tips, PDF files as well as databases.
The advantage of exporting and converting data, rather than retype or renter the same information is that it reduces the potential for errors to creep in and reduces the work need for proof reading.
For search engine optimization (SEO) keyword rich content is essential. However, most organizations do not have available staff to create new content - and are reluctant to hire new staff to complete this task.
Since we were established in 1980, and our President started programming in 1969 we are able to export data from most software and databases - even if they use a proprietary format.
